XDA Member chasx003 has written a guide on how to turn your NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV into the ultimate media downloading machine by installing Sickbeard, Transmission, and/or OpenSSH. You will need a rooted device and some familiarity with the command line, but other than that all you have to do is follow the instructions provided and you'll be fine.
