OnePlus Announces Open Beta 21/12 for the OnePlus 3/3T with “Parallel Apps” Feature, Oxygen 4.5.8 for OnePlus 5

OnePlus is very busy this morning with a number of announcements happening for their three most popular devices. Earlier this week we told you about a new OxygenOS update that was being rolled out for the OnePlus 5. This update brought your device up to OxygenOS version 4.5.7 and it included a highly anticipated feature that brought EIS to its 4K video recording. This update also included July's security patches as well, along with some bug fixes and stability improvements.

It seems there was a bug included in this update though as very early in the morning the team pulled the OTA update. They found that users were experiencing performance issues and stuttering when they were playing games. That update was very easy to resolve as they have already begun rolling out a hotfix update to OnePlus 5 owners. This update brings you up to OxygenOS 4.5.8 and comes with the same changes as 4.5.7, plus the fix for the game stuttering issue.

The company has also announced a new OxygenOS Open Beta update for the OnePlus 3 as well as the OnePlus 3T. If you own the OnePlus 3 then you'll be updated to Open Beta 21, and if you own the OnePlus 3T then you'll be updated to Open Beta 12. This update for both devices adds a new feature called Parallel Apps, some updates to a few of their application, and a bug fix along with code optimization as well.

The Parallel Apps feature will let you a separate version of select applications. Right now, this feature supports Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter Instagram and a "few more" popular applications. This will enable you to log into different accounts on the same device through a parallel version of it. Huawei has done this recently on EMUI 5.0 on the Mate 9 with its App Twin feature. This is something not all OEMs allow for out of the box and will be useful for those who enjoy have multiple accounts.

This new version of OxygenOS Open Beta also brings updates to the stock Launcher, Gallery, and File Manager. It fixes a bug which caused increased battery consumption after connecting to a Bluetooth device. And lastly they are now merging call histories from the same person in the call log.
