The year 2018 is just around the corner, and that means that the launch of Samsung's new flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, is now nearing closer and closer. As we get closer to the rumored announcement date, it's not unexpected to see renders and all kinds of leaks making their way online. And we're sure getting our fair share of leaks ahead of next year's release cycle. We first saw 3D renders of the phone, showing off most of the already-rumored features: a revised rear camera setup with more-appropriate fingerprint scanner placement, and a not-so-new headphone jack are just some of the features we are looking forward to.
But we now have further confirmation — this time, coming from case manufacturer Olixar. These transparent case renders clearly show off the back of both devices. The Galaxy S9 will retain the same single camera mount found in its predecessor, the Galaxy S8, while the Galaxy S9+ will feature the a dual camera setup as seen on the Note8. Positioning in both arrangements has changed, though. The dual camera mount of the S9+ is rotated vertically, unlike the horizontal placement seen in the Note8, and the fingerprint scanner of both the S9 and the S9+ are now located under the camera lens. This is quite the welcome change for a lot of users, as a centered position should lead to more reliable usage of the scanner. The heart rate sensor also moves from the left to the right.
But that's not all. The case also has a visible cutout for a headphone jack, indicating that Samsung is set on retaining the feature instead following the trend adopted by Apple, Google and others. Said decision was applauded with the Galaxy S8 release, and we're happy to see it survive in the newer phones as well. The display seems to retains the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio, as rumored, but the bottom bezel is slightly smaller this time around (albeit marginally). No surprises here either: Samsung themselves hinted at a smaller bottom bezel for one of their future phones.
Keep in mind that this is still pre-release material coming from a case manufacturer, and not an official source. But given the current consistency of S9 leaks, we're pretty confident that the final Galaxy S9 and S9+ will look pretty much identical to what we've been seeing as of now. The Galaxy S9 will reportedly be announced on February 27th, 2018, during Samsung's MWC 2018 conference.
