More Evidence of the AT&T Huawei Mate 10 Pro Emerges

The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro were both announced in October and later made available in December, though as usual the smartphones are not available in the United States. However, after a few reports revealed that Huawei would sell a flagship smartphone in the United States in partnership with AT&T, we discovered evidence of an AT&T Huawei Mate 10 Pro model.

At the time we only had firmware files available that pointed towards this possibility. The firmware was named BLA-A09-att-us and it contained many pre-installed AT&T applications, however, at the time that was the extent of the evidence we could dig up. Now that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro has reached the hands of consumers, though, we now have a far more reliable way of confirming the authenticity of our findings: flashable firmware.

That's right, existing Huawei Mate 10 Pro devices can be rebranded to the unreleased AT&T Huawei Mate 10 firmware. Doing so allows for Mate 10 Pro owners to use WiFi calling and VoLTE on AT&T's network. Rebranding a Huawei Mate 10 Pro works without unlocking the bootloader, too, which further proves the legitimacy of these firmware files. For this rebranding to work without bootloader unlocking, it means that the firmware files are official files signed by Huawei.

As you can see in the screenshots above, a Huawei Mate 10 Pro is shown running a beta, unreleased version of Mate 10 Pro software (8.0.0.54C07log). On the home screen, you can see your usual AT&T pre-installed software (the same software is pre-installed on my AT&T ZTE Axon M review unit, for what it's worth). And as mentioned in my previous report, the device does indeed come with Mozilla Firefox pre-installed. Finally, the AT&T software can be updated via a special menu in settings.

If you are interested in trying out the AT&T firmware on your own Huawei Mate 10 Pro, the FunkyHuawei.club service has posted a written guide on their subreddit. The rebranding process isn't free on their website, but it lets you rebrand to the AT&T Mate 10 Pro model without having to purchase that specific variant.

The AT&T Huawei Mate 10 Pro is likely to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in the beginning of January 2018 as we haven't yet heard of any other press conferences where the device would likely be revealed. However, that could change later this month. We'll keep a look out for any indication that the device will be officially unveiled, but at this point we are fairly confident that it exists.
