Xiaomi Mi A1 to be Available for sale at ₹12,999 starting December 7 in India

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched as Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone on September 5 at an event in India. It is now available in 40+ countries, making it a device which has a wide international reach. The device has the best specifications for an Android One phone so far, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, 5.5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display, 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, dual 12MP wide-angle + telephoto rear cameras, and a 3080mAh battery. It even has a 3.5mm headphone jack, something missing on the flagship Mi Mix 2.

The Mi A1 is powered by nearly stock Android 7.1 Nougat, and Xiaomi has promised an Oreo update before the end of the year. Recently, the company announced that it is seeking beta testers for the Oreo update. Unfortunately, we still haven't seen kernel sources released for the device so far which is hindering AOSP-based custom ROM development for the phone.

In India, the Mi A1 was launched for ₹14,999 in Flipkart and Mi.com, along with offline retailers including Mi Preferred Partners. Now, Xiaomi has stated that the Mi A1 will be available for a discounted price of ₹12,999 on Flipkart and Mi.com for three days, starting December 7 and ending on December 9.

This is a discount of ₹2,000, which is a good deal as it makes the Mi A1's price the same as the Redmi Note 4's launch price of ₹12,999. Compared to the Redmi Note 4, the Mi A1 has better build quality as it has a unibody metal construction, a better camera system, and has stock Android Nougat vs. MIUI 9, which may be a plus depending on whether a user prefers stock Android or MIUI. The battery capacity is lower, though: 3080mAh vs. 4100mAh.

We have reviewed the Mi A1 and found it to be a great device, especially for the price tag. For users who have wanted Xiaomi hardware paired with stock Android for a while, the Mi A1 fulfills the need as it's the company's first Android One device. Just don't go looking for LineageOS on the device any time soon, though, as the lack of kernel source release (which Xiaomi is obligated to do yet still has not) makes that extremely difficult.

In separate news, we've also seen Flipkart announce a massive price cut for the Google Pixel 2, which will be available for ₹39,999 for the next three days, a discount of ₹21,000 from its original price. The Mi A1 and Pixel 2 discounted prices on Flipkart are part of Flipkart's Big Shopping Days.
