HTC U11 EYEs Specs and Renders Leak: 5.99″ Screen with Snapdragon 652 and 3930 mAh battery running Android Nougat

Just a few months ago, HTC took the wraps off the HTC U11 Life and HTC U11+, two new counterparts to 2017's high-end U11. But those weren't enough, apparently — the Taiwan-based company's gearing up to release another smartphone in the U11 series — the U11 EYEs — that might be revealed as soon as January.

According to intrepid leaker Evan Blass, the U11 EYEs, code-named Harmony, is the spiritual successor to 2014's Desire Eye, which featured dual front-facing cameras. On the U11 EYEs, twin 5MP selfie sensors sit to the right of the phone's speaker grill, not far from the wraparound IP67 water-and dust-resistant aluminum frame and curved glass back cover. Judging by the press renders, the EYEs has a 5.99-inch screen Super LCD3 Full HD+ screen (2160 x 1080) with a 18:9 aspect ratio, rounded corners, and thin top and front bezels. And it inherits the U11's rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is situated above the EYEs's etched HTC logo and underneath its 12MP rear camera.

Under the hood, the U11 EYEs reportedly packs a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 652, a system-on-chip in big.LITTLE configuration with four high-performance ARM-A72 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores. (Another variant's said to come with a Snapdragon 660.) It's paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card, and a 3,930mAh battery that charges via USB-C.

According to Mr. Blass, the U11 EYEs will launch with Android Nougat and support HTC's Edge Sense, a customizeable feature that launches apps and actions when you squeeze the phone's sides. It could be unveiled as soon as January 15, the date of HTC's next press event, and it'll come in red, black, and blue colors.

Mr. Blass expects the U11 EYEs to retail for 3,299 yen ($510) but didn't have any information to share regarding availability, though earlier reports pegged Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan as launch markets. Considering the Desire EYE came to the US and UK in November, there's a reasonable chance it might see a stateside debut. Here's hoping.
