Nokia 6 (First Gen) Receives Android Oreo Beta – Download & Install with Nokia Beta Labs

Last month, HMD Global rolled out an Oreo beta for the Nokia 5 and promised that the Oreo beta for the mid-range Nokia 6 would soon follow suit. Making good on its promise, the company announced on Saturday that a beta version of Android Oreo is now available for the Nokia 6, adding that owners residing in India can now enroll their device in the Nokia Beta Labs to get a taste of Android Oreo.

HMD Global Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, took to Twitter to announce the news:

The beta update, which carries build number (V5.140), is based on Android 8.0 and weighs in at 1799.3MB in size.

If you have got a Nokia 6 and are interested in trying out an early version of Android Oreo, you can register your device in the beta program at Nokia's "Beta Labs". You will need to provider details like the IMEI number and your network operator in order to sign up. After successfully enrolling your device, you will receive the Oreo beta build via an over-the-air (OTA) update.

As for what to expect from the new software, users can look forward to all the usual Android Oreo features including picture-in-picture (pip) mode, notification dots, Oreo's autofill framework, and faster boot times, to name a few. Along with the Oreo update, the beta software also includes December security patches which address the critical WiFi KRACK vulnerability.

You will be able to provide feedback to HMD Global using the default Feedback application. And if you decide to no longer receive beta updates, you can also roll back your device from the program to reinstall the stable version (Android 7.1.1).
