Late last month, Google announced a new certification program called Android Enterprise Recommended. The list of approved devices at launch included the Pixel 2 and Pixel devices, BlackBerry KeyOne, Huawei Mate 10, LG V30, LG G6, and a few others. The Nokia 8 was on that first list and now it will be joined by a few more Nokia phones.
The idea behind the program is to convince more companies to trust Android smartphones for enterprise. Essentially, Google will give devices the seal of approval if they meet certain requirements. Fresh off of their announcement at MWC, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 6 will be joining the Android Enterprise Recommended program. This news comes straight from Nokia's official website. The devices have not yet been added to the Android Enterprise Recommended website.
A lot of consumers want to use Android devices for business, but many companies are hesitant to allow it. The situation has slowly improved over the years. This program will make it easier for companies to find safe devices. To be included in the program, a phone must have Android 7.0+, support for bulk deployment of devices, security updates within 90 days of release from Google for up to three years, and more.
Nokia (a.k.a. HMD Global) has been doing a bang-up job with Android updates. It's nice to see a company come out of nowhere and really seem to grasp the importance of great software and fast updates. Android fans are excited about Nokia devices again. The Android Enterprise Recommended should keep that momentum going in the business sector.
