In-display fingerprint scanners are set to be the next rage in the smartphone design evolution, as more and more phones move towards becoming minimalistic in their exterior design. Companies have been toying with the idea of in-display scanners for quite some time. It was Vivo who ended up coming out with the first publicly available smartphone with an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Now, Vivo is planning to bring another much-hyped smartphone with an under-display fingerprint scanner, the Vivo X21, to markets outside of China. The brand announced on Facebook that the X21 will be launching in Singapore on May 5th. Rumors do say that markets like India are also on the list, with the device expected to launch in the country by the end of May with sales commencing in June.
The Vivo X21 that is rumored for India is the variant with the under-display fingerprint scanner. Expected pricing of the device will be above ₹30,000 ($450), though it would be more prudent to expect a price tag above the current price in China, which is CNY 3,599 (~₹37,830; $566). There is no news on the regular variant (with the conventional fingerprint sensor on the back) making its way to India.
To recap the specifications, the Vivo X21 comes with a 6.28″ Full HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with an option for expandability. The front camera on this phone is a 12MP f/2.0 shooter, while the rear camera setup comprises of a 12MP f/1.8 primary sensor and a 5MP f/2.4 secondary sensor. The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, but also still uses a micro USB 2.0 port. And finally, the Vivo X21 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo underneath Vivo's Funtouch OS, and is powered by a 3,200 mAh battery.
