VRidge is a very cool tool that allows you to play SteamVR games without needing an expensive HTC Vive headset. Version 2.2 of VRidge makes it possible to play SteamVR games with the Google Daydream View, along with other standalone headsets.
Version 2.2 supports the HTC Vive Focus, Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, and Google Daydream View. The Daydream version of VRidge is currently in the approval process. Of course, this would be pretty useless without controllers. VRidge 2.2 supports the controller input for all the aforementioned devices. Since the Vive controller has extra buttons, VRidge uses the touchpad on the Daydream controller for extra input.
Example of running on a standalone device
For those that don't know, the VRidge technology uses the power from your PC to stream games to your phone. The games are streamed over WiFi and the technology limits things like jitter and lag. So you get an experience that closely mimics a device like the Oculus Rift, but with a much cheaper and untethered device.
Previously, VRidge was available on Android in the Play Store for devices like Google Cardboard. But those devices lacked a lot of features and input controls. The Daydream version should work a lot better, plus the controller support is a must. The Daydream version will be available right here once approved. In the meantime, you can still use the regular Android version.
