Facebook Messenger Lite Adds Support for Video Calling

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular messaging apps on the planet. Since almost everyone has an account, it's no surprise that Facebook is an easy way to get in touch with someone. The app used to be a clean and simple, but over the years it has become a bloated mess. They even admitted it's in need of an overhaul. Until that happens, Messenger Lite has been a great alternative.

Messenger Lite is a stripped down version intended for low-end phones. It doesn't have photo stickers, GIF search, games, mobile payments, or most of the fluff you'll find in the full app. The app was originally only available for emerging markets, but it's now available in most places. Facebook has slowly added more features to the Lite app. The latest addition is video calling.

Video calling was one of the major features not available in Messenger Lite. It has included regular voice calling for a while, but video calls were the last piece of the puzzle. Messenger Lite now has all of the communication options from the full-featured app. For most people, Lite is the vastly superior choice. You get all of the same communication options without the bloat. Hopefully, Facebook can show some restraint and keep the light in Messenger Lite.
